
The area of La Romana is in a lovely valley situated at the foothills of Sierra
del Reclot, Sierra del Algayat and the Sierra del Podrizas. It is known as
the
village
of "Pine Trees, marble and excellent wine".
La Romana and the surrounding areas are the sole producers of the "Uvas de
Mesa aledo", "Denominacion origen" and "delVALLE DEL VINALOPO", a particular
grape to this area and is bought by exporters for the tables in the whole of
Europe, the Large Supermarket chains in England buy the grapes from La Romana
direct.

Wine is also produced "uva de vino" in La Romana you can buy direct from the BODEGA and most houses have their own wine barrel which is filled with wine brought from the Bodega.
The area around La Romana is concentrated with Vinyards and Almond Orchards which are a picture in February when the blossom is in full bloom.
The village has a school where many British children attend; near to the school is a park with many pine trees and a Community Swimming Pool which is open from late June - Sept.
Fiestas:
It is in the Park in September the local Town Hall (Ayuntamiento) give a "Paella in the Park" for all the villagers and people living in and around La Romana are invited to celebrate the harvest.
From August 22-25the village holds the Moors y Christianos festivity which is a spectacular event, held in honour of the Sacred Hearts.
There are several other local fiestas during the year in La Romana and the
surrounding towns of Novelda, Hondon de las Frailes, Aspe and Elche.

Medical Facilities:
The village has its own Doctor and there are 2 main Hospitals 20 minutes
away in ELDA and ALICANTE.
The medical service is excellent and people with E121 have no problems integrating
into the Spanish National Health. We can assist you in this process.
Shops:
The Village has 2 supermarkets, 3 bakers, 3 butchers, 6 Bars/Cafeterias a Hardware shop, 2 electrical shops and a large furniture store.
Novelda and Elche have large Supermarkets, chain stores and larger markets
which are open Monday - Saturday.
La Romana street market is open every Saturday morning and the next village
Alguena has a Sunday market where local shops are open until midday.
Within 20 Minutes drive of La Romana is the golf course of Alenda Golf. The beautiful Valley surrounding La Romana is the ideal location for walking and horse riding.
